Managerial Experience
This list includes a sampling of projects, both professional and personal, to which I have had managerial experience over the last several years. Some of these projects have corresponding blog posts where you can acquire additional information.
International Lilly Conference on College Teaching (2005-2009)
- Student workers. The Lilly Conference hires roughly 100 students to help with various tasks during the 4-day conference. Student organizations on campus use this as a fundraising opportunity. I am responsible for advertising these job opportunities, scheduling students for shifts based around their class/personal schedule as well as the needs of the conference, offering training sessions prior to the conference, managing students on-site during the Lilly Conference, ensuring that student organizations are paid according to the number of shifts their organization worked.
- Conference Program. My responsibilities included the preparation of a ~200 page conference program, given to each of the 600 participants. Each program included various layouts indicating the conference schedule, multiple lists of conference attendees, and conference sponsors. This program was then given to the University print center for creation, in both hard copy as well as electronic versions. Additionally, I was responsible for approving the proof that was created by the print center prior to the final run.
- Technology. During the conference, I was responsible for assisting and troubleshooting any aspect of technology. Many of the issues that I solved were related to specific presentations/presenters (inability to get computer to project, LCD projectors not working, etc.). Additionally, I was responsible for setting up the technology used at the conference registration desk including computers, printers, credit card machines, etc.
